Besides this, Wordpress also supports post-specific comments feeds, which I use to keep up with friend’s blogs when they don’t have the email functionality this particular plugin provides.

For example, you could go to http://www.spamboy.com/latest-updates/subscribe-to-comments-plugin/feed/ to get the feed for this particular post. But more on that in a future entry…

@AB Although the conference was WordPress-centric, only a quarter of the topics were WordPress-based. And even those had aspects which could be applied to any brand of blog software (including TypeKey). At some point, professional recordings will be posted online — be sure to check some of them out!

I keep laughing about your comment. It never occurred to me that my talk would have anything negative about WordPress. My point was about the possibilities beyond WordPress core programming and Plugins to answering the impossible with WordPress, like adding powerful features beyond Plugins on sites like WordPress.com. The WordPress Community features some of the most creative folks in the world, and when faced with a challenge, they come through in surprising ways.

My love for WordPress doesn’t stop me from giving it tough love. I always have. On my blog and otherwise. Which is probably why they still tolerate me. ;-) I’m a user. I tell them how it is like a user. I am not an employee, but if I was, I would still speak the truth as I see it. WordPress can take that truth, which is one of the reasons why I love it.

Not many can.

I’m so glad you enjoyed WordCamp Dallas. It was so much fun and I learned so much and had a great time meeting everyone and learning from them. What an amazing group of people!

I can’t get over how the idea of NOT watching a football game (like the SuperBowl) ignites such suspicion in this world in general…and this state, in particular. Someone called our house yesterday wanting to speak about business to my husband. Because it was Sunday (the one day off he really takes) I suggested that Monday would be a better day to conduct business. AT that point I was asked if he would be watching the Super Bowl later on. When I said “no”, there was a pause. And then the guy acted as though watching football might be the only acceptable reason not to conduct business. Amazing.

Hey, Spamboy, I found your new site! I just finished reading Nipple Ring and the story of you and Jenn. Both great reads! Now… ages ago it seems there was a story that I never saw the ending to… it just kind of stayed in limbo for the longest time. But I don’t remember the title. It was about a girl you knew a long time ago and… I get the feeling it was doomed for an unhappy ending, at least there was the foreshadowing for it. Is that story in any of your chapters now? That sounds like the time my editor (Fort Worth Weekly…our version of the Observer) was on his European vacation and he was called to say that he had been “replaced”…which is a cowardly word for “fired”. I always thought Bruce Hall was the coolest of all the dorms. It had great character. And some of the most interesting people lived there. I never knew about Wanda, though.

Denton is north of Dallas, and is home of my old school, the University of North Texas. Because of it being a college town, there are lots of great little dinner spots like Steve’s. From what my friends still in Denton tell me, Steve’s never reopened…sad, sad.

I was raised in a Southern Baptist home. My mother never questioned the faith of her parents. My father was a lapsed Catholic…the product of a mother who paid lip-service to the “church” but never went and a Lutheran father who also never went. Then my mother converted him. When I left home for college, I think I attended church a total of about three times. Organized religion fills me with many unanswered questions. Unfortunately, I’m not quite satisfied with “pat” answers. I married a guy who was a member of a “Disciples” church, which–aside from the Unitarians–is about as far left as you can go. We think. We discuss. We doubt. We embrace the concept of the God as mystery, rather than trying to put God in limited human terms. The founders of the Disciples movement felt that your relationship with the higher power is between you and that higher power. It’s none of anyone else’e business and the notion of converting others (we’re a great respecter of world religions) is highly offensive. Lacking the option of being a part of this kind of church, I probably wouldn’t go. I’m still curious about the next installment of this story. Who changes his/her mind? You or Jenn?

Oh. My. God. That’s hysterical.
We were always the last to get EVERYTHING. My dad was kind of a Luddite about that sort of stuff. Also, he had/has an ongoing war with all inanimate objects. No one was allowed to touch the hallowed Beta…and I was out of the house by the time he bought it. Now he’s got his stereo/VCR/TV/DVD all hooked up so that he can control it all from a big remote. He’s like Captain Kirk on the Starship Enterprise. Mom’s afraid to touch the thing because no one knows how he’s got it fixed but him.

Oh my God! My father, who has an engineering degree, always felt he was/should be a superior boardgame player to my mother (who only graduated from high school).

Cutthroat games like Risk were his specialty. In fact, he could beat my mother at everything…except…Monopoly. She had a kind of zen-like way of playing that had nothing to do with plotting and planning. Mom wasn’t particularly strong in Math and she’s not the kind of person who is very competitive, so her repeated victories nearly drove my father to distraction. To this day it is still a mystery how she won so often. Dad always maintained that she was lucky, but if that was the case, she had more luck than anyone I knew…with regard to that particular game. They’ve not played in many, many years because the last time they did Mother won again and Dad blew up. Ahhhh. Good times.
