For eight years, Bruce Hall was the epicenter of my existence. Situated on a crown of land smack dab in the middle of the University of North Texas, it is the oldest and most diverse residence hall on campus. Its location across from the College of Music, plus a tradition of self-expression steeped an artistic culture, have made the building stand out as more than just a dorm.

During my time there, I served various tours of duty in the following roles: anonymous resident, Fire Buddy, Wing Representative, RHA Representative, Vice-President, President, Conference Assistant, Resident Assistant, Historian, Assistant Hall Director, and Hall Director. Although I am proud of that résumé, my greatest feat may have been the occasion I was elected Lobby Lizard, a weekly honor bestowed upon the one resident who epitomizes the slacker nature of Bruce Hall. Yes, this was an even greater honor than the time I won a popularity contest, barely beating out the nameless gentleman most famous for selling pizzas every night at five bucks a pop.

I lived at Bruce Hall long enough to put up a serious challenge for the honor of “Longest Time Without Graduating”. Believe it or not, I fell short by a few years, losing to a dude named “Swampy”. It was at Bruce Hall that I learned to grow up, a valuable experience that I never learned in any classroom. It was also there that I met my best friend Jim, whom I would have never know if I had graduated on time. So I don’t regret spending so much time in college, as I would likely not be the person I am without such time spent.
